I think yo2 is a good BSP for wordpress, but one problem is the speed is not so satisfactory these days, especially that it's difficult to visit my blog for my friends outside of China. I don't know what's going on. I have been here for less than 1 week, and don't know if it has been always at this speed.
So, I have been looking for a web host these days. There are some recommanded web hosts in wordpress.org, but I feel it is not suitable for me because of the price and the way to pay the bill. I have no credit card, also have not too much dollars in my paypal accout. So I need to find a web host which is a little cheap and allow the paypal. Finally, I found hostgator.com.
The performance of hostgator's hosting severice is pretty good according to the reviews in its forum, but I came across a complicated and embarassing verification process. I still have no idea about the exact reason, but I am sure customers From China may face this problem. We need to verify our name and address. It took me a whole day to complete the verification, calling hostgator, providing citizen ID and some relevant documents with my name and address on that, and also taking a stupid photo with my ID card in my hand. It's the first time for me to face this kind of situation. I almost could not convince hostgator that I am just living Where I am living. After one day's weird verification, finally I got the access to my account. But then I need to wait about 2-3 days for the proprogation of my domain before I can manage my site. That means, I can't do anything in the first 4 days.
I don't know how many users may come across this kind of verification, but international users, espeically those From China and other Asian countries, are probably in the blacklists. If not considering its web host performance, I might give it up because I have never been so frustrated even when signing up a free host.
For those who wanna buy a hosting service with paypal, I think you need to prepare your scan of ID card, and a copy of recent utility bill which is a proof of your address. Also, try to use your real name when filling the personal information. By the way, hostgator has a live support service, and I should say, this support team does a pretty good job.
I registered a domain name mylottian.com in hostgator, and When I can manage my site in hostgator, I will move this blog there.
